‘Quadzilla’ Förstemann eyeing Six Day Berlin glory alongside Levy
26 November 2018
Robert Förstemann is certainly no stranger to racing at Six Day Berlin, but that doesn’t mean the event is any less special to the man known as “Quadzilla”.
Gearing up to compete on his home Six Day track for the 11th time in his career, few events mean as much to the Olympic bronze medallist as competing on his home track.
With the chance to link up with compatriot and Phynova Six Day London sprint champion Max Levy, Förstemann is already putting in the hard miles in preparation for a Six Day spectacular from January 24 to 29.

Förstemann, who enjoyed a spectacular tussle with Levy throughout the London competition in October, is relishing the opportunity to perform to the peak of his powers alongside team sprint partner Levy.
“It was great competing against Max [Levy] and at the next event we are going to be partners in Berlin to compete against the Russian riders,” said Förstemann.
“Last time we had some really good performances and some really tough races it was really interesting for the spectators and it was very hard for us.
“When we ride together in Berlin it will be very hard for our opponents to beat us.
“It will be a new feeling for us to compete together, but it’s a little bit like team sprint that we do at international events as Germans.
“As a team we are often together, but it’s a first time at a Six Day event, so it’s really special for us and of course it will be spectacular for the crowd.
“We’ve talked about a plan, we want to be really, really good.
“We are doing special preparation for the event because for both of us it’s a really special event and it’s his home track too.”
The 32-year-old was narrowly edged out in London as Levy secured a sterling Six Day crown with 293 points at the Lee Valley VeloPark.
But the four-time European champion believes the roar of his home crowd can help guide him to victory in the German capital.
“I am really happy going in to Six Day Berlin, it’s a really big event and I think it’s my 11th time next year.
“I think every night between 10 and 12,000 people will be there and it’s a really great event. All the sportsmen and riders in the world are looking forward to it.
“It’s one of my favourite events, it’s my home track, I train there a lot in the year and it’s a really special moment to ride in front of my family and friends on a really historic track.”
