British Olympian Laura Kenny will compete in the first ever Six Day Manchester track cycling event at the HSBC UK National Cycling Centre from March 22-24

The Six Day Series is heading to the home of British Cycling next month, bringing its unique mix of world class track cycling and partying to Manchester.

And Britain’s most successful female Olympian, Laura Kenny, has confirmed she will join the riders competing in the three-day cycling extravaganza.

News of Kenny’s involvement follows her triumphant visit to Manchester last week, where she was crowned British Champion in the scratch-race in her first National Track Championships appearance since 2015. Kenny beat fellow Olympic champions Elinor Barker and Katie Archibald in Manchester – and the rivalry will continue next month with Archibald also confirming her place at the Six Day event at the HSBC UK National Cycling Centre.

Kenny won the hearts of the British public at the London 2012 Olympic Games where, at the age of just 20, she captured gold medals on the track in the team pursuit and the multi-discipline omnium event. She became one of the nation’s most popular athletes, playing a key part of the Great Britain team that won 12 medals across cycling, and went on to further success four years later in Rio, taking her personal tally of Olympic gold medals to four as she successfully defended both titles.

Kenny, who returned to the squad last year after giving birth to her son Albie, reminded her teammates that she is a merciless tactician in Manchester last week and is looking forward to her next outing in the same venue: “I’m really excited to compete in the Six Day Series for the first time,  especially in Manchester and at the home of British cycling – I am really looking forward to taking part in such a unique event with so much history.

“The Six Day Series is getting bigger and bigger with events across Europe, Asia and Australia and I’m so excited to be coming back to Manchester next month. Six Day is hugely competitive and mentally and physically challenging, so I hope the Manchester crowd really get behind the event, the riders, and enjoy the unique mix of cycling and partying!”

Six Day Manchester will feature the world’s best male, female and junior riders who will descend on the city for an action-packed, three-day event, set to include all the Six Day track racing formats presented at the home of UK cycling.  Racing will include the Madison, time trials, team eliminations, scratch-races and points race.

Tickets to Six Day Manchester are now on sale and available from just £25. Find out more and buy at https://www.ticketmaster.co.uk/sixdaymanchester
