Archibald and Barker set for Phynova Six Day London

6th September 2019

Olympic gold medallists and world record holders Katie Archibald and Elinor Barker will compete at Phynova Six Day London 2019.

The British pair, who topped the podium together as they romped to team pursuit gold at the Rio Olympics in 2016, are all set to get their home crowd on their feet at the Lee Valley Velodrome.

Archibald, 25, is a triple world champion and eleven-time European gold medallist, breaking the women’s team pursuit world record at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

She returns to the Lee Valley Velodrome having scooped the Six Day London title in both 2016 and 2017, claiming last season’s overall crown following her win at the Six Day final in Brisbane last April.

“Six Day events are like nothing else on the calendar and I can’t wait to get back to London’s iconic Lee Valley VeloPark,” said Archibald.

“I’ve got some amazing memories of winning at Six Day London and I’ll be looking to perform well again in October in front of the London crowd.”

The Glasgow-raised star also took the spoils at the inaugural Phynova Six Day Manchester in 2019, beating Laura Kenny to the crown.

Archibald is a model of consistency having never finished lower than second place across the six events in which she has competed.

She will be joined on the bill at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park by Barker, a four-time world and five-time European gold medallist.

The Welsh ace is no stranger to Six Day having claimed overall wins in Amsterdam in 2017 and Mallorca in 2017 – this will be her second appearance in London and fourth in the series.

“I’m very excited to be returning for Six Day this October, and really looking forward to racing with Katie,” said Barker.

“We’ve obviously shared the highest moment of our careers to date when we won together in Rio 2016, so it will be fiercely competitive between us when we meet in London.”

The Six Day Series returns to London for a fifth consecutive year with Archibald and Barker bolstering an impressive line-up that includes two of the world’s top sprinters in Mark Cavendish and Elia Viviani.
